We have a linear particle accelerator, or linac, installation of the same type of those used in hospitals. Radiation therapy education and research are conducted using this installation. No other university in Tokyo has access to this equipment outside of a hospital.
MRI scanners take cross-sectional images of the human body using magnetic fields. The Arakawa Campus has a 3-T MRI scanner that produces a three tesla, or 300,000 gauss, magnetic field. In addition to cross-sectional images of the entire body, the MRI scanner is capable of taking images of biological information using cutting-edge technology, such as 3D representations of brain function activity (fMRI) or cranial nerve fibers.
